Cold Brook County Park was acquired by Kalamazoo County in 1962. A popular campground and beach, Cold Brook has 276 acres consisting primarily of water in the form of three lakes and unique wetlands.

Markin Glen County Park was originally the estate of Morris Markin, the founder of Checker Motors corporation of Kalamazoo. The Parks Foundation of Kalamazoo County was responsible for leading the fund raising drive that allowed the west side of Markin Glen to open as a County Park in 1994 after the County acquired the property from the City of Kalamazoo.

Markin Glen features unique and beautiful natural features. From the top of one of the highest points in Kalamazoo, hikers can experience a scenic view of downtown. The park is also home to a wide variety of spring flowers and has a mature beech maple forest. The state-of-the-art campground was opened in 2004 and offers 38 sites conveniently located just north of downtown Kalamazoo.

    Camping per night $25
    Advance Reservation Fee $5
    *The camping fees include the entrance fee for one vehicle. Additional vehicles must pay the daily vehicle entrance fee of $5 or purchase an annual vehicle permit.

Dog Park

Prairie View Dog Park opened in the spring of 2010 and features 7 acres of fenced park area for dogs to exercise and socialize off-leash. The park has a grass area with plenty of shade trees and a wooded section with a walking trail. Plus there is a special area for dogs under 25 lbs. Access to the dog park requires either payment of the daily vehicle entrance fee or an annual park pass.

Beach House

The Beach House is available for rentals during spring & fall seasons and can accommodate up to 40 people. With the scenic view overlooking Hogsett Lake and the fireplace to keep you warm, this is the perfect location for a family activity, business meeting, or other group outings.

River Oaks County Park

The park is named for the 100+ year old oak trees that stretch along the shore of Morrow Lake. River Oaks County Park features one of Southwest Michigan's premier soccer facilities with 20 fields that regularly host youth leagues, adult leagues, and regional tournaments.

Soccer Fields

River Oaks offers a beautiful facility that features 20 soccer fields ranging in sizes full, mid and junior. The fields are available for game, league, practice, and tournament rentals. Improvements to the complex were completed in 2005 and include new fields, 650 paved parking spaces, restroom facilities, and a concession stand. See a detailed map of the complex.

This facility is home to AYSO Region 212, River Oaks Soccer Club, Kingdom Soccer and Gull Lake Women's League. Several Tournaments are held at the complex annually.

Wenke Softball Fields

Comstock Township and Kalamazoo County partnered with local donors to construct the Wenke Softball Complex. The four fields are maintained and operated by Comstock Township Parks. For league or field information, contact Comstock Township Parks at (269) 343-8212.

Model Airplane Field

The Kalamazoo Thunderbirds RC Club operates the River Oaks model airplane field. For membership and field information, contact 269-823-4044.

Weddings

Scotts Mill is proud to offer one of the best outdoor wedding spots in the County! The historic mill, waterwheel, and natural landscape are the perfect backdrop for a beautiful wedding. The wedding package includes the picturesque wedding site beside the historic mill, electricity as needed, the shelter and all vehicle entrance fees.
